Happy Tuesday Everyone!
Hope everyone had an amazing Labor Day weekend! I mean it’s already Tuesday, so this week will just fly by! Also up on this week’s menu is going to be a quick story time! So let’s just get right to it!
Alright, for the last year or so I’ve been DYING to try out SoulCycle and see what all the hype is truly about, and I’m fortunate enough to say that this past weekend I got to attend my first class, and what better way to introduce myself to the spinning realm than with a Harry Styles vs. One Direction theme (that was the playlist.. I kid you not, ONLY the heavenly voices of my boys were played for an hour straight. Beautiful)!
So despite all of this, let me start off by saying that getting my rear end to a class is not necessarily the easiest OR most convenient thing in the world, but I knew it was time to just bite the bullet and try something new! So as I checked the schedule at both Philadelphia locations, I literally could not contain my excitement when I saw that one of the upcoming classes would be featuring my two favorite artists of all time. Naturally, I set an alarm on my phone to make sure I registered as soon as the classes became available for the week, wrote it down in like 3 different planners, and told all of my friends. I also roped my very wonderful boyfriend into coming with me, and basically the date was set!
So if you are interested in trying out a class, I would definitely suggest picking one that gets you excited. It made it harder to talk myself out of going or making the drive, and was just overall the best way to test the waters and potentially even start a routine!
Now, once we got there, I’m not going to lie, it was definitely a little overwhelming. As it was our first time riding, we were to arrive about 15 minutes early (which we did, but I still don’t think that was even enough time). We talked to the people at the front desk who were so much help, and within minutes were basically set and on our way to the locker rooms to change into our soul shoes (they give you shoes that lock into the bike pedals. Yes. These are absolutely necessary) and get down into the studio.
Because it was our first time, we got a discount on our ride and the shoes were free as well, which was a pleasant surprise! There were also staff in the studio to help us get equipped with the bikes as well. They adjusted them, made sure we knew how to put our feet into the pedals, and showed us all of the ways the bike worked (how to increase/decrease the resistance and put on the brakes).
By the time we were situated, the class was basically seconds from starting so there was no time to think, just time to jump right in!
The class is about 45 minutes long and while you are cycling away, you do moves on the bike that incorporate upper body strength and lots of coordination. I’ve danced for years and there were times that I just could not keep up with how fast my legs were peddling and how slow my arms had to move. So needless to say, maybe I’m not the greatest multi-tasker! However, all of the variation really kept it interesting and the time flies by! Not to mention the entire time you are surrounded with such positive energy and great music so it’s really difficult to not enjoy yourself!
There are also moments in the class where you really do find some soul searching. You need to connect with your body and really push it to its limits and in those moments are where you get the most out of your SoulCycle experience.
And for like the millionth time in this post let me reiterate.. the entire playlist I got to experience was all One Direction and Harry Styles songs. Y’all know that’s a soundtrack I could listen to on repeat for the rest of my life so of COURSE I was living the entire time!
All in all, if you are thinking about taking a class with SoulCycle, I would 100% recommend it. It was so fun and the energy is infectious, and truly, I can’t wait to go back (they’re having a Dear Evan Hansen class the weekend of my birthday, holla!)
If you need a break from reality, check out your nearest studio and get your tush there asap! It’s so much more than a trend and there’s no way you will feel bad about it, especially when you leave knowing you’ve just done your body good with such a great workout!
Hope everyone is having a great week, and as always..
Until next time,
P.S. Check out some pictures below from the day!
