Happy Friday Everyone!
As you all may know, I’m in Disney World this week! Of course, I’m taking some time to just enjoy the trip for now and cannot WAIT to be bringing y’all some story times soon, but in the meanwhile I thought it’d be fun to show off my carry-on bag essentials!
I don’t travel an excessive amount; however, I’ve been lucky enough to have gone somewhere in the world in which a plane is involved a few times within the past few years, and since I’m older now, it’s my responsibility to pack my own bag with my very own essentials. So since I recently had to prioritize packing, I thought it would be fun to show you all some of my carry-on necessities: Disney Edition.
So without further ado, let’s get right into it!
1. A reading book
I seriously will never travel without a book in my backpack. True, sometimes it doesn’t get touched as much as I would like it to, but you also can’t go wrong with this. No matter where you are or whether there is good cell connection or wifi, a book has always got your back. I truly can’t tell you how many times they’ve saved me from boredom and have also helped me stay a little less connected to the interwebs, something that I definitely appreciate when on a vacation.
This trip I’ll be bringing along the second book in The Darkest Minds trilogy, Never Fade. For anyone looking for book recommendations, I would 10/10 suggest this series for all of my dystopian society lovers out there (:
This is another life saver. Although I typically listen exclusively to Spotify and sometimes when in the air am unable to access all of my music, I just am one of those people who needs to have background noise. I can blast some tunes, get into my own groove, and either close my eyes or focus on something else like the previously mentioned book.
They’re also a necessity for me considering I’m a YouTube watching fiend and when in a hotel room or in the airport, I can’t expect everyone around me wants to listen to Shane Dawson or my favorite makeup gurus and their latest make up reviews, so these are seriously a lifesaver for me!
You never know what the temperature is going to be when you’re in the air. Even if I’m flying somewhere super warm like Jamaica, it’s still pretty probable that it’ll get a little chilly half way through your flight. And trust me, I find nothing more uncomfortable than having goosebumps and the chills for any longer than like, 3 seconds.
You can see where this is going, right? Bring a jacket! Even if you don’t use it, you’ll regret it even more if you find yourself wanting one. Bonus Jonas: They can double as a pillow too if needed!
Who doesn’t want to pretend you’re a celebrity in the making? Or at least that’s what I think I am when I’m wearing sunglasses 24/7. Although these are something you could definitely pack in your luggage, I just find I prefer them to be on me just in the event that I find myself needing them. It’s kind of similar to the sweatshirt mentioned above.. I’d be kicking myself even more if I forgot them!
Now, I know Kanye’s lowkey a little controversial right now, but I still totally stand with him and when he says big glasses are out, you listen. Check out this pair I snagged from H&M for super cheap. They’re very chic and although they are, dare I say.. trendy, in black I just feel like you can’t go wrong! (:
5. A wallet
This is a no-brainer. You literally can’t go anywhere without it. It carries ID and money and that’s pretty much all you need it for, but at least everything is in one place!
1. My laptop
As sad as this is, sometimes I really don’t think I could function without this bad boy. It has my entire life on it, and leaving it behind just feels odd. Even though on vacation I know I won’t be using it to the extent that I’m used to at home or in school, I still just like to have it in those ‘just in-case’ moments. Plus, it’s a bigger screen to watch my YouTube videos so it’s a win-win, right?
This is new and unique to this trip. I recently went out on a limb and purchased a GoPro because I really wanted to get a ton of vlog footage for both the blog and eventually a little travel diary. Disney is one of my favorite places to visit and I thought it would be a good chance to get creative with my free time and I can’t wait to see what comes of it. In addition to the camera, I’ll have a few little accessories such as a back up battery and handheld tripod to (hopefully) make filming just a little bit easier.
Obviously I’ll keep y’all updated on how the process goes but I’m optimistic that this will be a really good investment for vlogging in the future!
This is lowkey very unnecessary but a fun extra. I really enjoy taking my polaroid camera on trips but I’m infamous for forgetting about it or not taking the time to get the right shots with it, but where better to change that attitude than in Disney, am I right? I’ll also be bringing some extra film and a little carrying case for it, so it won’t be a hassle to lug around the parks (:
The Disney Essentials
1. Autograph book
One of my favorite Disney traditions is always the autographs. My mom got me a special book this year for Christmas and I can’t wait to start filling it asap. You can see it’s a storybook/autograph combo and I really love it so much. Some of the people I most want to meet include: Peter Pan (this shouldn’t be a surprise), Gaston, Rapunzel, and all of the Winnie the Pooh friends!
2. Minnie Ears
I’ve gotta include these. They’re pretty much going to be an extension of my body for this entire trip and for that reason will definitely be packed in my carry-on. You better believe they’ll be on my head the minute we touch down in Florida and I’m so so so excited. They’re beyond cute and I love that they’re sequined, taking a classic take on the normal Minnie Ears. In my opinion, these are an essential for any day in the parks!
The ‘Just In-Cases’
1. Extra clothes
This is just a precaution in the event that your luggage goes MIA. The probability of that happening is low, but you also don’t want to be stuck wearing the same underwear all week, right? So do yourself a favor and pack at least one back up plan outfit. Again, you won’t regret it in the event that something DOES happen.
I tend to not chew gum, but I am often around those who do and they really appreciate when you’re able to offer them a piece. It’s also a good thing to have on a plane and can help with the pressure built up in your ears!
When you’re going some place sunny, you always want to keep those lips moisturized and protected. There is seriously nothing worse than burnt, crusty lips. So you can bet I bring not one, not two, but at least three of these bad boys anywhere I go.
I got this pack of Hatchimals chapsticks from T.J. Maxx and it was a steal and a half. They’re so cute and yummy!
Luckily, a flight from PA to FL is pretty short so there isn’t a need to pack anything big like blankets or neck pillows. For me, I get to pack the things that I could possibly need or can’t bear to part with (my laptop). I also don’t need to worry about things that I would normally pack such as a passport or sunscreen since I’m not leaving the country and my mom will be handling the ‘boring’ stuff.
What are some of the things you all make sure gets in your carry-on bag? Who are some Disney characters you’d like to meet/get an autograph from? Let me know in the comments below and be sure to follow me on Instagram @manhattanskye to stay up-to-date with our Disney adventures!
Until next time..
